Parviz Tanavoli, as the first Iranian artist that has started making jewelry since 1970, introduced medal designing as an artistic expression. Therefore, the first artistic medals in Iran, were created by him who taught his own brilliant idea to young artists.
At the first step, some motivated students of Master Tanavoli as their social responsibility, made a group and their own website www.artmedal.ir with prospect to introduce and develop the concept of artistic medal, upgrade the young generation and cultural richness with the macro goal of effective activity in line with the vision concentrated on both theoretical and practical aspects at September 24, 2018. The next step is recognizing and introducing renowned professors in this special art field, to transfer from generation to generation the theoretical and practical skills of the Art Medal in Iran. The mission is to provide a dynamic chain of art medal knowledge and apply its experience in practice by creating positive visual effects in cultural and public spaces. And, this group was established to dedicate attention to research and special techniques of the artistic medal.
The logo of this group was unveiled on the occasion of the birthday of Parviz Tanavoli, the founder of the Art Medal in Iran at March 23, 2019. This Logo designed by combining two letters A and M in a spiral cycle of symmetrical form. The Letter M evokes the basic structure for entering the main shape and form of the logo (circle) or ring as a symbolic form of the medal, and the incoming movement of the letter A which comes from the outside into the form of the circle, indicates instability and movement perpendicular to the space. So, it makes the imaginary of infinity. In this logo, the open paths from bottom to top challenge the flow of two characters from inside to outside and from outside to inside in a formable contrast. Youth and dynamism of both soft and straight forms show the historical value of the art medal and youth of this art group in the ancient land of Pars. The logo was designed by Professor Ahmad Reza Mir Moqtadaei, designer and art teacher, under the supervision and approval of Parviz Tanavoli.
On the occasion of the 90th birthday of Sohrab Sepehri, the great contemporary Iranian painter and poet, at October 5, 2018, Sohrab Medal Design and Making Competition was held at the Mah-e-Mehr Institute, judged by Professor Parviz Tanavoli, Marcy Borneh, Elahe Javaheri, Hedyeh Tehrani, and Mona Pad. Out of 47 artworks submitted and 33 artworks of them have been selected from 28 artists. At last, 9 artworks were nominated as the best.
This group is proud to bring many young artists to this field by creating regular scientific and educational programs along with specialized workshops and presenting international events, and to create a brilliant prospect for the Iranian Art Medal.
