Iranian Art Medal Group

Parviz Tanavoli started creating wearable sculptures in 1970. Some were in shape of art medals, the first of their kind Iran. He is the first Iranian artist to use medal form as a medium to express art, and has been teaching this love of ‘small sculptures’ to his students, many of which have since formed this group to further introduce the rich culture of Iran thru this medium. This group’s mandate is to continue presenting art medals not only to the international community, but also train and interest the future generations of artists in this field.
Furthermore, this group is dedicated to research, documenting and exhibiting this important element of visual art. This group was founded on 24th of March of 2019, in honor of Parviz Tanavoli’s birthday. The logo of this group is an A & M (Art Medal), which consists of a circular M which holds an A inside it. These two letters are combined so they portray a movement, an ascend towards an everlasting space. This is also a symbol of the young age of this group and art form. This group has the honor of creating and running workshops and exhibits, attending international and national events and establishing Iran’s art medal to the world.
